PUNTA GORDA ANIMAL HOSPITAL

Are X-rays really needed?

"Joey" is a 4 yeard old mix breed dog who got a fish hook stuck in his mouth a few years ago.  "Joey's" mom told her husband to take "Joey" to the vet to have the hook removed.  The husband decided to "save a few bucks" he would just cut the hook off at the gum line.  We saw the dog several years later for a "routine" dental.  The mouth looked normal on exam.  Full mouth oral x-rays where taken and revealed a foreign object.  The hook had sat in this poor dogs mouth all that time creating pain and an abscess.  The hook was removed and Joey did great.
